This policy explains what [Company name, LLC] (“Hyphenated”, “we”) collects, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account info: email, username, name, password (stored as a salted hash), birthday, profile photo and bio. If you sign in with Google we receive your name, email and a Google account ID.
- Content: videos, sounds, captions, comments, LIVE chat messages, and frames we extract from videos for safety checks.
- Activity: what you watch and for how long, likes, follows, shares, searches, reports and blocks.
- Device and log info: IP address, browser type and basic diagnostics.
We don’t collect precise location, contacts, or biometric data. Camera and microphone access is used only while you record or go LIVE, in your browser.
How we use it
- To run Hyphenated: show your videos, build your For You feed, deliver notifications and LIVE.
- To keep people safe: detect and remove harmful content, enforce our Guidelines, protect minors, prevent spam and fraud, and meet legal obligations.
- To improve the service.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Who we share it with
- Other users: your public profile and public videos are visible to everyone. Private accounts and followers-only videos are visible only to approved followers.
- Service providers that host and process data for us under contract: Cloudflare (hosting, storage, video), our email provider, and our content-safety provider.
- Legal and safety: when required by law, to respond to valid legal process, or to protect someone’s safety. US law requires us to report apparent child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Teens
Hyphenated isn’t for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If we learn we have, we delete the account. Accounts for people under 18 get extra protections; see Safety & teens. Parents can contact [support email].
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile, make your account private, and control who can comment and duet in Settings.
- Download a copy of your data in Settings → Download your data.
- Delete your account in Settings → Delete account.
- Depending on your state (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others), you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete and port your data, and to opt out of sale or targeted advertising (we do neither). Email [privacy email] to make a request. We won’t discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Retention
We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete content or your account we remove it from the service, and from backups within [30] days, except where we must keep it for legal reasons (for example, content preserved for a law-enforcement report).
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Passwords are hashed. No system is perfectly secure; tell us at [security email] if you find a vulnerability.
